A Barbecue is practically a must for
the 4th of July, as well as throughout
the summer months.
Are you a gas barbecue fan, or a charcoal fan?
Do you desire the flavor of things cooked on
charcoal over the convenience of gas?
If you are cooking with charcoal, be sure and plan for
the time it takes to get a good bed of coals. Start too
late and you end up with very hungry and disgruntled guests.
On the other hand, gas is instant, and you can have
a barbecue at a moments notice. Just fire up the grill
and away you go.
Keep an extra propane tank on hand with a gas grill.
You don't want to run out in the middle of cooking,
and sometimes there is nothing open at the time it
runs out.
If you are often cooking for a crowd, make sure you
have a big enough surface on your choice of grills.
If you are smoking meats, start at least 1 day
before smoking by applying a rub on the meat
of your choice, and letting it stand covered with
foil overnight. This mainly applies to big cuts
of meat, like beef brisket. Start your smoker early
enough so you can eat at a decent hour.
Some suggested barbecue foods are:
Beef ribs, hamburgers, steaks, shish kabob
Pork loin, pork chops or pork spareribs.
Hot dogs-kids favorite
Chicken, either whole, halved, or pieces
Vegetables, either skewered or flat on the grill
or in a basket
Fruits may also be cooked on the grill
Serve along with your favorite starch such as baked potato (also on the grill)
Salads and breads of your choice
Water or other drinks such as juices
And a dessert such as a nice cold watermelon
